Pincushions!

Last Friday, I found a really pretty silver tray at the thrift store for $4. I held onto it not really knowing what to do with it until I saw some old school thread on wooden spools at the crafts section. I thought it'd be really cute to use the tray to store my floss and needles while I worked. Before, I just threw everything into a small box where things easily got lost.

The pincushion I've been using belonged to my boyfriend Ryan's great-grandmother. His family calls her the "Martha Stewart" of her time! I believe it. I've seen her handmade throws and cross-stitched birds. (Pictures of those coming shortly!) I figured that it's time I return it since it means very much to Ryan's mom. While the tomato ones sold at stores are cute, I wanted to try my hand at diy pincushions. I used a ditsy rose printed handkerchief, cotton rounds, and a piece of felt.

Before the felt was attached.

The bottom is a little bit ugly because I got lazy and just started sewing wherever. I like the button but it could've been done prettier.

I ended up buying the thread! It looks so cute. The stork scissors were from the flea market and work surprisingly well for only being a dollar.

Bottom: My own!

Not bad for the first try, huh? My only issue with it is that the cotton rounds make it extremely difficulty for the tapestry needles to pierce (their tips are blunt). Next time, I'm going to spring for polyfill.
