With the start of a new semester, I decided that I needed something that will actually LAST. And maybe not plastic, because it starts to collect smells after a while. I looked for bentos with lots of compartments so I wouldn't have to buy anymore disposable containers. The Shikiri Bento was my first choice but then I saw that it was pretty much just like my old one that broke (except it had more dividers). I kept looking and found some stainless steel ones and nearly bought two before I read the reviews. They were awful. I dodged a bullet there.
Thanks to Google, I found the Planetbox! It was so perfect and cute that I HAD to buy one. I was going to get just the box and dipper set but found out that shipping+tax would've cost exactly the same as buying the entire kit in-stores. But I'm glad I did. The carrying bag was made for the Planetbox (OBVIOUSLY!) and fits perfectly into my backpack (a Fjallraven Kanken Original, which is rigid and rectangular. It keeps the Planetbox bag and its contents in place and holds all of my folders). I love it.
Anyway, I rarely ever post without photos so here are pictures of my past bento lunches and the new Planetbox.
As you can see, it was mostly carrots, pasta, rice, tomatoes, apples, and Chinese sausage. I don't know what I was thinking using the cabbage as a divider. It smelled bad. So did the pineapples. Yuck.
Ta-da! I was worried that the pink set would have the fairy magnets but I lucked out. Rainbows and ponies? Super Lisa Frank. I like that!
I packed: carrots, cucumbers, colby-jack cheese, a hotdog, rice cracker bits, a tiny vegemite sandwich, green tomato, rice with sauteed garlic eggplant, and a piece of black licorice.
I'm excited to plan lunch for next week. It's too bad that the portions are too small for Ryan. He's happy with his tupperware for now, though. :)
