Ecology 7217 (10% complete)

Greetings from Texas!

Every couple of years, I spend a month or two in the Lone Star state with my two aunts. I make a little bit of pocket change by working at their salon and when it's slow, I pull out the crewel kit. This one is a huge project (roughly 20x24) The hedgehog took me about a week and a half to finish with a few long breaks in between so I'm not sure how long this will take with the way I slowly chip away at things.

It's weird going from simple cross-stitching to crewel because of all the new stitches I'm learning. I had a little trouble with the yellow and gold flowers because they were made with bullion stitches.  I had NEVER seen nor attempted anything like that before. The chart wasn't very helpful (or maybe I just have poor reading comprehension!) but I'm fortunate enough to be working with several women who used to embroider in school. They've been my coaches!

I completed the top left corner and now I'm starting on the french knot bundles and bird. Uneven tension made some of the fabric bunch up underneath the flowers and stems. I've learned my lesson and now being more careful with the rest of the project.
